Three weeks ago China’s largest television station sent a film crew to the academy to begin filming a documentary TV show called Foreigners in China.  The focus of this episode would be on long term student and traditional class member, Jeff.  The crew of 6 filmed for a total of 7 days.  During their time here they filmed the traditional class training, Jeff’s daily life in and outside of class, and several interviews with both Master Yuan and Jeff.  They were a very pleasant group that were conscientious, courteous and great to work with.  The show will be airing some time next month, so keep checking in for more news about the airing.  We will post a link as soon as the show airs.  For now, feel free to take a look at some of the pictures taken during the filming that we have posted below.

After the conclusion of the filming, 8 students embarked on a week of travel to Xi An and Gan Su.  In Xi An they visited the Shaanxi museum, the Eight Immortals Temple, the Muslim quarter, and many other cultural significant places.  After a day and a half in Xi An, the group then headed off to a small area in Gan Su province called Xia He.

For several years the group has been trying to arrange a trip to Tibet, but because of the distance and fears of being turned away at the border, it has never happened.  Xia He was the next best alternative as it is home to the largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries outside of Tibet.  The town itself is mostly populated by ethnic Tibetans.  The area is pastoral and mountainous with many beautiful views.  It was interesting for the group to see the differences in culture that were present, including the style of dress.  One enjoyable part of the trip was eating food that was very different than the Chinese food the group was used to eating.  Almost every dish was comprised of Yak meat or yoghurt and some combination of strange spices.

After a few days in Xia He, the group then returned to Xi An to close out the trip with some pizza, sandwiches, Starbucks and sightseeing.  Upon returning to Wudang, two performances were awaiting those who had gone on the trip.  One performance took place at the mountain gate here in Wudang, while the other was for Hubei TV in Wuhan.  Have a look at the pictures below.
